The music department has been busy preparing for the new school year, creating a wide range of musical opportunities and programs for everyone to enjoy. Look for the addition of our third and final concert band, rounding out our vision of three levels of bands; beginning, intermediate and advanced. Drumline, music ensemble, percussion ensemble, and drum club remain active, while the addition of a chorus in the spring will offer a new facet of musical exploration for students to experience.

In the classroom, students can continue to expect an Orff –based curriculum to include singing, movement, recorder, instruments, and guitar. Composition also plays an important role in our comprehensive approach to music education. Students learn to compose their own music in our Mac midi lab and with the Activboard via technology software like Finale and Groovy Music, in addition to the hands-on approach of simply experimenting with instruments to create new musical ideas.

All in all, the music program is ready for a great year of music making on every level. I know you all will help me welcome our new music teacher, Patrick Wright. Be sure to read his welcome and introduction to learn more about the great things he brings to our students and program.

I know several of our students have had some enriching, musical learning experiences and achievements over the summer. I look forward to hearing all about them!

As always, please check the website frequently for announcements and updates. It is the primary information source for families and students regarding the activities and events of the music department.

Finally, feel free to email me with any questions or concerns regarding the program, and I’ll look forward to seeing everyone later this week.

Best Wishes,
Paula Williams

Hello!  My name is Patrick Wright and I am so excited to join the High Meadows team this year with Paula!  I know that the year is going to be a blast for everyone, especially the kids!

A little bit about me:  I graduated in May with a music education degree from Georgia State University.  My primary instrument is euphonium, although I play piano as well.  I currently work with Pope High School’s marching band with Paula.  I have grown up around music as both of my parents and my three sisters are all musicians!  I love learning new things and I couldn’t be more excited about this opportunity to teach kids about music!  Let’s get started!

Thanks!
Patrick Wright
