Parents of Advanced and Intermediate Bandmembers:

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POSTING

This Tuesday, October 21, the High Meadows Band program is very fortunate to have Sam Hazo in to work with our students. Mr. Hazo is a world-famous composer, conductor, and clinician from Pittsburgh. He is an old friend and colleague of mine, and is going to be in the Atlanta area next week working with many of the Cobb County band programs. On a long-shot, I asked him if he would come work with our students, and he said YES!

Liz Gembecki, Pat Wolf, and Michelle Zierten have approved the following schedule for that morning for students in the Intermediate and Advanced Bands.

7:30-9AM Rehearsal in bandroom with Mr. Hazo

9AM 4/5 students go to class

9:10-10:10AM Mr. Hazo works with Advanced Band students, and 4/5 students with parental permission

10:10AM-10:30AM More detailed work with Mr. Hazo for students with parental permission to miss class

10:30-11AM Question and Answer Session w/ Mr. Hazo for students with parental permission to miss class

11AM All students return to class; Mr. Hazo departs

Advanced Band and Middle Years Parents

I know most 7th graders will be on the 7th grade trip. I'm sorry they will miss this opportunity.

For all other Middle Years families, while Pat Wolf has approved this schedule for this morning event, it is ultimately YOUR decision whether or not you want your child to participate in the Sam Hazo clinic instead of their morning academic classes.

ALL MY students are invited to participate that morning, no matter what band they are in, if they have permission from their parents.

If you choose for your child to stay until 11AM with Mr. Hazo, please inform me as well as their homeroom teacher via email.

4/5 Parents

Your students have been approved by the administration to stay until 9AM. If you as a parent want them to continue in the rest of the Sam Hazo morning session, it will be up to you to inform their classroom teachers of that decision.

ALL PARENTS

Please let me know via email if your child will be participating in the full morning session for planning purposes on our end.

PLEASE NOTE: YES, I am asking the advanced band members to come in early on Tuesday, October 21, at 7:30AM.

YES, we will BEGIN rehearsal at 7:30 on that one day instead of 7:45.

PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE.

Finally, this is an AMAZING opportunity for our student musicians. They will benefit greatly from their time with Mr. Hazo. He is exciting, dynamic, and fun, and we are very fortunate to have him here for one morning.

As always, please feel free to email with any questions.

Sincerely,
Paula Williams
